There’s no substitute for spending time inside studios.

This week, the Mariana Tek team traveled to Boston to connect with studio owners, operators, and industry leaders who are helping shape one of North America’s strongest boutique fitness markets. From packed classes to thoughtful conversations about growth, retention, and member experience, one thing became clear: Boston continues to raise the bar for boutique fitness.

Bringing the Community Together at Fenway Park

On Tuesday evening, we hosted a social event at Fenway Park, bringing together local fitness leaders for an evening of networking, idea sharing, and great conversation. With perfect summer weather and one of Boston’s most iconic backdrops, it was a reminder that some of the best industry insights happen outside the studio walls. Studio owners, operators, and industry partners came together to connect over a shared passion for boutique fitness, creating new relationships and strengthening existing ones in a relaxed, memorable setting.

Events like these are about more than watching a baseball game, they’re about investing in the community that makes this industry so special. Bringing operators together in an environment outside their studios creates opportunities to build meaningful connections, celebrate one another’s successes, and strengthen the relationships that help move boutique fitness forward. We’re grateful to everyone who joined us and helped make it such a memorable evening.

Touring the Studios Powering Boston Fitness

One of the highlights of the trip was stepping inside some of Boston’s leading boutique fitness brands. While each studio has its own identity, every visit reinforced the creativity, passion, and operational excellence driving this market.

EverybodyFights

EverybodyFights has evolved far beyond its boxing roots. While the brand remains known for its dynamic boxing workouts, it now offers a more holistic fitness experience that includes open gym access, personal training, recovery services, strength training, and functional fitness classes. The expansion reflects a broader trend we’re seeing across the industry: successful studios are creating multiple ways for members to engage with their brand beyond traditional group fitness, increasing flexibility while building deeper, longer-lasting relationships with their communities.

B/SPOKE Studios

B/SPOKE exemplifies how today’s leading boutique fitness brands are evolving beyond a single workout. By combining cycling, strength, yoga, Pilates, recovery, and community experiences within one ecosystem, they’ve created multiple touchpoints that keep members engaged throughout their fitness journey. The result is a flexible, premium experience that encourages cross-training, builds loyalty, and gives members more reasons to return week after week. It’s a powerful reminder that the future of boutique fitness isn’t just about offering great classes—it’s about building an ecosystem that supports long-term wellness.

Higher Ground Fitness

Visiting Higher Ground reinforced another trend we continue to see across the boutique fitness industry: the most successful brands aren’t simply following categories like Pilates or strength training—they’re creating their own. By developing proprietary programming, investing in instructor education, and delivering a consistent brand experience across every location, Higher Ground has created a concept that clearly stands apart in an increasingly competitive fitness landscape.

North End Pilates

Visiting North End Pilates was a reminder that innovation doesn’t always mean adding the newest technology or the most amenities. Sometimes it’s about creating a space where members feel seen, supported, and empowered to move in ways that work for their bodies. By prioritizing individualized instruction, adaptability, and an intentionally welcoming community, North End Pilates demonstrates how boutique studios can build lasting relationships through exceptional member experiences.

MYSTRYDE

What began as Boston’s first treadmill studio has grown into a dynamic fitness brand built around strength, cardio, and community. Today, MYSTRYDE offers a variety of class formats that blend treadmill intervals, functional strength training, and HIIT, giving members the flexibility to create well-rounded fitness routines without the monotony of doing the same workout every day. Beyond the studio, the brand has expanded into run coaching, community run clubs, events, and open gym, creating multiple touchpoints that keep members engaged both inside and outside of class. It’s a great example of how boutique fitness brands can evolve beyond a single modality by building a lifestyle-centered community that keeps members coming back long after their first workout.

Three Takeaways From Boston

1. Variety drives a stronger fitness ecosystem.

One of the things that stood out most throughout the week was the incredible diversity of modalities represented across the city. From boxing and cycling to Pilates, strength training, yoga, and treadmill-based training, Boston offers something for nearly every type of fitness consumer.

That variety creates a healthy, competitive ecosystem where studios continue to innovate while carving out unique identities and loyal communities.

2. Innovation isn’t a buzzword—it’s the standard.

Boston has earned its reputation as one of North America’s strongest boutique fitness markets because operators are constantly evolving.

Whether it’s experimenting with pricing models, embracing new technology, refining the member journey, or expanding programming, studios across the city continue to push the industry forward rather than simply keeping pace with it.

3. Community extends beyond the studio walls.

The conversations we had throughout the week, whether during studio visits or at our Fenway Park gathering, highlighted something we’ve always believed: the boutique fitness industry is stronger when operators learn from one another.

The willingness to share ideas, celebrate wins, and openly discuss challenges is part of what makes this industry so unique.

The Data Confirms What We Saw

Our conversations throughout the week closely mirrored what we found in our recent Boston Metro Boutique Fitness Report.

Compared to the national average, Boston studios:

  • Generate 25% more monthly revenue
  • Command premium pricing across nearly every modality
  • See greater adoption of credit-based purchasing than unlimited memberships
  • Continue to lead the growth of Pilates while maintaining a diverse mix of fitness offerings

The data, and our firsthand experience, tell the same story: Boston isn’t just a thriving fitness market. It’s helping define what’s next for the boutique fitness industry.

If you’re looking for ideas to strengthen your own studio, there’s plenty to learn from Boston, no matter where your business is located.
