Can you feel it? The snow is melting (well—not for all of us), the sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and the frequency with which we use our winter coats is lessening with each passing day. Spring is coming!
It’s time to ramp up your outdoor offerings. Your members want to be outside, so give them some classes that pair fitness and fresh air.
And with COVID restrictions still in place, outdoor classes are an excellent solution to social distancing and airflow.
To help you prep for a fun-filled outdoor experience, here are our five tips for fitness classes al fresco:
1. Build the excitement
As with any new class option, you want to excite your members. Start by teasing the addition to the schedule: “Let’s start the countdown! In t-minus three days, we’ll announce our newest class! Any guesses?”
Once the class is announced, promote, promote, promote! Share it frequently on all of your social media channels. Remind everyone in your studio newsletter. Create a promotional banner for your website. Build the excitement.
(BONUS: This might be an opportunity to get some of your former members back to in-person training. They might not be ready to train indoors, but they could be ready for outdoor classes…)
2. Check your local policies
Some cities require you to have a permit to use public parks and spaces. Make sure you take care of all permitting and payment prior to your outdoor class. The last thing you want is to be tossed out of the park due to permitting violations!
3. Dump your dumpy little speaker
If you’re going to use music, invest in a quality speaker that works well in outdoor spaces. We like the Big JAMBOX and the SONOS Move. Cruddy audio cannot be forgiven.
Ensure every detail of your outdoor class is perfect. Use our software for fitness studios to streamline equipment management and class logistics.
4. After the party, it’s the afterparty
Now more than EVER BEFORE, folks are craving connection. So give the people what they want! Plan a post-workout event. You’re already outdoors. You’ve already got the music. (See tip no. 3.) All you need is a few big jugs of some local coffee and you’ve got yourself a sweet little gathering. (And if successful, it could be something you do after every outdoor workout!)
5. Share the love
During your outdoor classes, take plenty of pictures and videos. Show your audience how fun your new offering is. And make those who didn’t enroll just a wee bit jealous. Because without constant and intentional promotion, members (and prospects) will forget what you’re selling.
Cheers to warm weather, outdoor fitness, and increased revenue!
