Spotlight on Chicago: Yoga, Founders, and the Power of Connection
After visiting major fitness hubs across the U.S., our team at Mariana Tek landed in the Windy City to explore its boutique yoga scene.
Chicago combines Midwest warmth with big-city ambition, and that spirit shows up in its studios. These are spaces built not just for movement, but for connection, creativity, and growth.
As part of our City Tour, we hosted She Built This: Chicago Edition, an inspiring panel featuring female founders and studio leaders from Chicago’s yoga community.
Moderated by Julie Sippy from Xplor Mariana Tek, the session explored leadership, growth, and authentic brand building in boutique fitness. Oana shared five key takeaways from the event.
- Build and protect your team culture.
Hiring around your core values and aligning your people with your vision is the foundation for success. - Ask for help and lean on your community.
Entrepreneurship can feel isolating, but collaboration is a strength. Surround yourself with people who understand your goals and can help you reach them. - Growth requires systems and clarity.
Expanding from one to multiple locations introduces new challenges. That is where technology like Mariana Tek helps owners stay organized, connected, and scalable. - Know your ideal client.
Not everyone will be a long-term member, and that is okay. Offer membership perks and experiences that make consistency rewarding for those ready to commit. - Authenticity wins.
“If you create an environment people cannot live without, they will always come back.” Staying true to your brand and your purpose builds lasting community.
A huge thank you to our incredible panelists – Julie Cartwright, Reina Offutt, Katie Lilly, Sarah Larson Levey, and Katy Branstetter Richardson – for sharing their wisdom and energy.

She Built This Recap
This year has been a whirlwind of travel with the Mariana Tek City Tour — and we’ve loved every second of it. Last week, the road led us back home to Chicago for one of our favorite events, She Built This. It was our second time hosting it, and it did not disappoint. We had the honor of hearing from an incredible panel of female founders who shared honest, inspiring stories about what it really takes to build something lasting. Themes of team culture, community, growth, and authenticity came up again and again — along with a powerful reminder that not everyone will be your ideal client, and that’s okay. When you build something real, people feel it. A huge thank-you to our panelists, attendees, and studio partners who made the night so special. You’re what makes this community so powerful. Now the only question is… where should we host She Built This next?

The Chicago Yoga Scene is Powered by Community and Technology
What stood out most during our time in Chicago was how deeply connected this community is. Studio owners, instructors, and members all share a sense of purpose that goes beyond the mat. There is a collective drive to create spaces where people can grow, connect, and feel seen.

Our insights and analytics tools also help studio owners see the bigger picture. Attendance patterns, membership growth, and sales data all come together in one platform, helping operators make confident, informed decisions. When the tech runs smoothly, studios can focus on what matters most: their people.

Across Chicago, many yoga studios are expanding into new neighborhoods, building loyal memberships, and fostering inclusive, empowered communities.
